General Manager Haka Accommodation Group
Maria is the GM of Haka Accommodation Group, looking after a growing network of 7 properties across Aotearoa. Maria is based in Rotorua but is often traversing the country seeing our properties in both islands as well as time at our Auckland head office. Maria has had a stella career with Haka so far starting off as a Lodge Manager in Taupo, being promoted to our first ever Operations Manager role and now the GM of the entire accommodation group! Maria’s iwi is Te Arawa.
Originally from small-town Ontario, Joëlle brings her sense of adventure and Canadian hospitality to the team. She has spent over a decade working in the hotel industry, and the wider tourism sector too – so she is in the perfect position to lead the Haka Hotel Newmarket team and make sure all our guests get the most out of their time in Auckland.
Joëlle is widely travelled, but has called New Zealand home for the past nine years since meeting her partner right here in Auckland. Her top Auckland activity recommendations are heading out to the Waitakere Ranges for a hike or hopping over to Waiheke for some wine tasting and beach-hopping.
Gian hails from the small town of Pateros, Metro Manila on a mission in Auckland to serve a dose of warm Filipino hospitality. Being in the field for five years will guarantee that our guests will be well taken care of. He is a happy-go-lucky, music loving dork who’s all for acceptance and equality. On his spare time, he enjoys being a part of a local LGBT community choir.
Manila born-and-raised Lei is the Haka Hotel Newmarket Housekeeping Supervisor, making sure that all our guests spend their stay in spotless rooms. She has worked in the hotel industry for years, kicking things off with internships during college. Lei has a high regard for attention to detail, and also believes that there’s no dull moment in housekeeping – as long as she has her favourite music to keep things energetic!
Lei moved to New Zealand for its picturesque scenery and lovely people, as well as its reputation as a wonderful country across the globe. Two of her favourite things are dogs and Disney movies – because they are both awesome.
Hospitality runs in my blood as I belong to the country India who represents itself with the slogan Athithi Devo Bhava which simply means considering guests as God. There are more than 22 languages spoken in India from which I can speak 4 of them. Being passionate about cooking and serving the community fascinated me to be the part of hospitality industry. Working in a business hotel for almost 2 years in India encouraged me to explore and gain deep knowledge about tourism and hospitality, and thus my first overseas expedition to NZ begin, to experience worlds best adventure activities and its beautiful scenery.

We love Eru’s passion, his impressive knowledge of tikanga Māori and his ability to engage all staff across the Haka Tourism Group.
Duty Manager/Night Auditor
Grew up in a city called “City of Golden Friendship”. Worked as a customer service in the Philippines for years and has developed a customer focused mentality and a passion for customer satisfaction.
Learning new things always upsurges my energy and interest. The main reason I moved in New Zealand is that the country is well known of its attitude towards respect and value of other people and also the people and country are awesome.
I love watching movies and reading books – well I guess I also love to eat…
Silvia (QianHui) Fang
Silvia grew up in a small city in China called Wuhu (you can think woo-hoo!!). She is passionate about creating a memorable experience for guests. Previously worked in China and the US, Silvia is now enjoying her time working and living in New Zealand. She is aware of what hospitality means to people coming from different backgrounds and cultures. She loves engaging with guests, listening to their stories and just being amazing. In her spare time, Silvia likes to get lost in Auckland and click some random pictures while she’s at it.
Born and raised in New Zealand. Is of Niuean and Cook Island descendant. Worked in the Hotel industry for over 10 years and still going. I am a confident team player working with and meeting new people a vast majority of cultures. When I’m away from work as a mother of 5 and grandmother of 2 time is precious to me and I value every moment spent with them. That’s what I call quality time.
